Q. How do I use the Reserve & Collect service?

We offer a Reserve & Collect Service at all our main libraries. This enables you to request any book that is available on the shelf to subsequently pick up at that location (IoPPN books will be available for collection from the WEC library).

There is currently no other access to the books on the shelves at the Maughan or IoPPN libraries. If you wish to borrow anything from either library you will need to use the Reserve & Collect service.

Monday to Friday, our staff will do their very best to retrieve requested books for you and get them ready for you to book a time to come to the library, collect and borrow them yourselves using the self-service kiosks.

All books must be self-issued so you MUST bring your student card with you when you are collecting books as library staff will not be able to issue them to your account on your behalf. If you do not have your student card please contact Student Services to arrange one before coming to the library.

How it works:

To reserve items online, you will need to log in to your library account and request an item in the usual way:

  • You must be signed into Library Search before you can make a reservation.
  • Search for a book using Library Search in the normal way. New to King's? See our Getting Started page
  • Once you find an item go to Location item (location should show as on the shelf, if you request a book that is on loan it will take longer for it to become available as we wait for it to be returned by the current borrower; please avoid this option wherever possible).
  • Click on request, the pickup location will automatically be set at the ‘home’ library, i.e., where the book would be found if you were to visit in person, this cannot be changed unless you are registered with Disability Services and have had your library account updated to include the option to pick up books at any library. Please note due to the IoPPN library being currently closed the default pickup location for this library will be the Weston Education Centre Library.

When your item is ready for collection, we will send you an email which details how to book a Reserve & Collect timeslot to come to the library.

  • While we will endeavour to make sure as many of your requests as possible are ready for you to collect at the same time we cannot guarantee this; particularly if requests are made on different days.
  • We currently cannot guarantee how long you will have to wait for your books to be ready after you have requested them, but we will be working as hard as we can to make as many as possible available as quickly as possible.

Please visit our LibCal page to book a Reserve & Collect time-slot.

DO NOT do this until you have received your email notification to say your book is ready for collection.

  • Please be aware that the libraries are operating a strict booking system for collecting books and you will not be granted access unless you have a confirmed booking. However, you will be able book an R&C timeslot at any time on the day provided slots are available.
  • You will need to choose Reserve & Collect from the Location and relevant Library Reserve & Collect Queue from the Category drop-down menus to book a convenient timeslot.
  • You MUST confirm your booking via the email we subsequently send to you otherwise your booking will be automatically cancelled, and you will not be able to access the library.
  • Bookings are available Monday - Friday, throughout the day for 15 mins only. This is enough time for you to collect and issue any available reservations. This is all you will be able to do on that visit.
  • You may place a booking up at any time during the day, but you will not be granted access to any library until you have confirmed your booking.

All books must be self-issued so you MUST bring your student card with you when you are collecting books.

  • Library staff will not be able to issue books to your account on your behalf if you do not have your card. If you have not received your student card yet please contact Student Services.
