Are there any jobs, placements, volunteering or work experience opportunities in the libraries?
Answer
We receive a high volume of enquiries for jobs, placements and volunteering opportunities in the library. Opportunities are available in the following categories:
Internal opportunities for King's students and alumni
- If you are studying at King’s at any level or have recently graduated, temporary employment opportunities are advertised internally on King's Talent Bank.
- We offer an annual three-month full-time paid internship to a King's student to support the library's marketing and communications agenda. This is advertised internally via King’s Talent Bank.
- For King's MA students in Early Modern History, we support an annual credit-bearing internship in which interns deliver a major project with the library's Special Collections and Archive teams.
Opportunities for external candidates
Level 3 Apprenticeships
We offer a paid entry-level 18-month apprenticeship for those considering a career in libraries and archives. Delivered jointly with a government training provider, it offers hands-on experience of all aspects of working in an academic library. Vacancies will be posted on www.gov.uk/apply-apprenticeship
Supported Internships
In partnership with NHS England, we offer a 12-week supported internship opportunity for young people with learning difficulties. Interns divide their time between working at the library while learning maths, English and employability skills.
Opportunities will be advertised on www.hee.nhs.uk/our-work/choices-college-supported-internships
Library and Information study placements
Through our long-established relationships with the Department of Information Studies at UCL, we offer annual placements to students of Library and Information Studies at UCL.
Contracted employment opportunities
Please check www.kcl.ac.uk/jobs for any available roles in the library. These are open to anyone internal or external to King's.
Group and Individual visits from Librarians, Archivists and Information Professionals
We welcome requests for group and individual visits to our libraries, provided the needs of visitors can be met without compromising services. Please contact us at library@kcl.ac.uk to ask about a visit.
We are otherwise unable to offer any other work experience or volunteering opportunities.
