What support do you offer for referencing?
Answer
Libraries & Collections provide several resources alongside our e-learning pathway to support you with citing and referencing at King's. If you're not sure which referencing style you need to use, then please check with your module tutor or supervisor.
King's Guide to Referencing
Our Library Guide offers guidance on four of the main referencing styles used at King’s: APA (author-date style), Chicago (footnotes style), OSCOLA (footnotes style for Law) and Vancouver (numbered style). It also includes advice on using bibliographic software.
KLaSS: Citing & Referencing e-learning
This pathway of bitesize activities guides you through the principles and practicalities of citing and referencing, including how to avoid plagiarism. It includes guidance on using four of the main referencing styles used at King’s: APA, Chicago, OSCOLA and Vancouver.
Cite them Right Online
Try out this online platform to get advice on how to reference correctly across different referencing styles, including a tool to practice creating citations. Use your King's username and password to log-in. Cite Them Right offers detailed guidance on the following referencing styles: APA, Chicago, Harvard, IEEE, MHRA, MLA, OSCOLA and Vancouver.
A note on referencing and Generative AI: You are expected to acknowledge its use through an academic statement, rather than as a citation. Please refer to the Generative AI – Student Guidance for details.
Library Search
Library Search includes a citation tool that allows you to generate references for items in the catalogue in the following styles: APA, Chicago, Harvard, MHRA, MLA, OSCOLA and Vancouver.
We recommend checking the references against other resources, such as Cite Them Right, since in some cases Library Search is not able to show the most recent editions.
