What library support is available for systematic reviews & evidence synthesis?

Answer

Courses on advanced search techniques for systematic reviews run regularly through the year. These can be booked via the Library Workshops and 1:1s page on our Searching for Systematic Reviews and Evidence Synthesis Library Guide. This page outlines what’s on offer to KCL students and staff as well as staff from our main partner NHS Trusts.

We also offer 1-1 appointments and have an online forum (forum for KCL staff and students only) where you can go for support from a librarian. The 1-1 appointments are appropriate for questions about how to access and search databases using a structured search and advanced search techniques, and advice on improving search strategies.

Systematic review drop-ins are also available on Teams. You can find more information about these services on our LibGuide page linked above.

These courses and other support are also suitable for those undertaking other forms of evidence synthesis including scoping reviews, rapid reviews, and umbrella reviews.

Please note that we cannot help students with the following:

  • Choosing your review type
  • Doing searches for you
  • Reviewing search strategies using formal guidelines such as PRESS 2015
  • In-depth software training such as on Covidence, Raayan or reference management software
  • Screening records
  • Data extraction or analysis
  • Creating PRISMA diagrams
  • Word or Excel support
