Can I take graduation photos in the libraries?
Answer
We are delighted to welcome our graduates, their families, and friends to the libraries during this special time of celebration. To help us maintain a respectful and supportive environment for all users, we kindly ask that you follow the guidelines below when taking graduation photographs. For graduation photography purposes, two guests per graduate are permitted access to the libraries.
Where You Can Take Photos
• Photography is permitted in library study areas, corridors and window bays.
• Please be considerate of others who are studying or working nearby.
When to Take Photos
• To minimise disruption we ask that any graduation photography takes place outside peak study hours if possible, which are 09.00 - 19.00, Monday to Friday.
• All photos should be taken promptly and without blocking entrances, stairs, corridors, or workspaces.
The Maughan Library - Round Reading Room (RRR)
The Round Reading Room is both a silent study space and a popular backdrop for graduation photos. To strike a balance between celebration and study:
Photography in the RRR is only permitted outside of 09.00 - 19.00, Monday to Friday.
Access to the upper level of the RRR is strictly prohibited under all circumstances.
Signage will be displayed at the entrance to the RRR during this period. We ask all visitors to respect these hours to help preserve a peaceful study environment.
Additional Guidelines
• Flash photography and video recording are not permitted inside the libraries.
• Photography must not interfere with library operations or staff.
• Please take care to avoid capturing other library users in the background of your photos.
• Furniture and equipment must not be moved, rearranged, or obstructed.
• Library staff may ask you to stop taking photographs if it is causing disruption or does not comply with this guidance.
Thank you for helping us maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful space for everyone during this celebratory time.
